Artist's view of the CV Joffre. (D. Allard)
The construction of the ship began on November 26th 1938 at Saint-Nazaire shipbuilding ; but the construction was stopped because of the World War II and France had to achieve the construction of her "own Bismark" : the battle cruisers Richelieu and Jean Bart. The ship was unachieved and destroyed when the Germans won the war in June 1940.
The construction of the carrier never began and the project was given up in 1940.
