1/ HISTORY

Created in 1948 at NAS Port-Lyautey, the 55S squadron constituted the Ecole de Perfectionnement sur Multimoteurs (Twin-Engined Aircraft School") for French Navy pilots from the 51S squadron and destinated to maritime patrol and airlift commands. It was equipped with Wellingtons (1948-1952) and Goëlands (1948-1953). It was transferred in 1950 to Agadir where it took delivery of several Lancasters (1952-1961) and Beechcraft SNB-5s (1953-1973). It left Morocco in 1961 and went to Aspretto (Corsica). In 1970, it was re-equipped with Nord-262s. It was disbanded in 1986 and its missions were transferred to the 52S.
